Michele May

Michele MayJune 14, 2016- Barrie, ON: Within the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are a tremendous amount of influential athletic leaders whom we wish to recognize.  These exceptional staff members contribute to a competitive, vibrant, safe and fair athletic experience for our student-athletes.

From St. Joseph’s Catholic High School in Barrie, we recognize the outstanding efforts of Michele May.  Michele has been an SMCDSB employee for 30 years and the Jaguars have been lucky to have her in their school community that entire time.

“Michele has been instrumental in building a strong athletics program for this school,” said colleague Arlene Merkley.  She has coached a variety of sports including: badminton, basketball, swimming, tennis, and volleyball. “Michele is a spirited member of our staff and an integral part of our house system, social justice team, orientation team and graduation team,” explained Merkley.

Among many roles at St. Joseph’s, Michele has served as the Co-Curricular Chairperson for 15 years, Head of Physical and Health Education for 10 years, and been an annual leader and presenter at the Ontario Physical and Health Education Association (OPHEA) conferences.  As a co-founder of the Monsignor Clair Cup, Michele continues to help organize the annual hockey tournament for our Catholic secondary school community.

Outside of school, Michele is an active member of St. Mary’s Parish and gives back as a associate professional coach to the local Skyhawks Tennis organization.

Michele, thank you for your outstanding athletic leadership over the past 30 years! Please visit Employee Connect to nominate another SMCDSB staff member.
