Michelle Rumney

February 17, 2016- Barrie, ON: Within the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, there are a tremendous amount of influential athletic leaders whom we wish to recognize.  These exceptional staff members contribute to a competitive, vibrant, safe and fair athletic experience for our student-athletes.

From St. Monica’s Catholic Elementary School in Barrie, we wish to recognize the efforts of Michelle Rumney.  “As a teacher-coach, athletic representative and Chair of the Marathon Club, Michelle has been a positive contributor to the education community for 16 years,” commented colleague Colleen Magennis.

Michelle  has coached basketball, football, volleyball, track and field and cross country.  She has also organized the Fun in Athletics program as well as St. Monica’s intramural handball and basketball programs.  Michelle combines athletic events with Catholic community initiatives by raising funds or receiving donations which are then given back to the larger community.

A two time ironman finisher, Michelle has been involved in a variety of capacities within SMCDSB and the Barrie community.  She is a past President of the Barrie Baydogs Triathlon Club, a coach for the Barrie Royals, a fitness instructor and a personal trainer.  Michelle’s students recognize her tremendous contributions to both their own personal growth and to the larger school community.  In a letter to her last year they wrote, “Thank you for being an important part of our time here at St. Monica’s by giving us your love of fitness and sports through basketball, the Marathon Club and Fun in Athletics...You have given us a sense of belonging at this school...Thank you for being a coach, a teacher a role model and a leader for us.  You have shown us the reasons to get out and get active.”

Michelle, thank you for your outstanding athletic leadership!
