Natalie Ligouri- Female Student-Athlete of SeptemberCatholic School Athletics of Simcoe County is home to so many dedicated high-school student-athletes.  Each month we are happy to recognize the efforts of our student-athletes by selecting one male and one female to be named CSASC Student-Athletes of the Month.

Natalie Ligouri

Natalie Ligouri is the September recipient of the CSASC Female Student-Athlete of the Month.  A Grade 12 student at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School in Tottenham, Natalie represents the Stingers in basketball, volleyball and soccer.  Her coaches agree that she sets a high standard for herself and her teammates, while Natalie’s teachers recognize her as an excellent role model.

A three year starter on the Senior Girls Basketball team, Coach Pat Dooley describes Natalie as “an outstanding basketball player and even greater person.  On the court she is ‘bulldog’ point guard who constantly makes her teammates better and gives 100% at all times”.  Currently she is living a unique experience being on the court with her younger sister, an experience she will value for years to come.  Dooley comments, “Nat is a huge part of the fabric of this school off the court as well”.

Along with her many gifts, Natalie is a caring member of the Lunch Buddies Program whereby she volunteers to spend time with individuals who have a variety of special needs.  She has also spent time playing basketball in the community for the Barrie Royals and Juel Prep.

Currently, Natalie has her sights set on playing basketball while continuing her educational journey at post-secondary school.

Congratulations on your achievements thus far Natalie and all the best in Grade 12!

Justin Bergsma

Justin is the September recipient of the CSASC Male Student-Athlete of the Month.  As a Grade 12 student at Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School in Orillia, Justin has been a part of numerous teams including soccer, cross country running, volleyball, badminton, basketball, ultimate frisbee, tennis as well as track and field.

Justin is described by many of his coaches as extremely coachable and very respectful.  Co-Curricular Chairperson at Fogarty, Ryan Damen, illustrates “Justin is a consummate leader and an avid participant in Fogarty Athletics”.

As a senior, Justin has reduced his participation only slightly.  “Serving as captain of both the volleyball and basketball teams, Justin routinely displays  leadership and maturity beyond his years,” said Damen.  “He represents the true character of a student-athlete.  His incredulous co-curricular commitments have only bolstered the strength of his academic resolve”.

Justin is perpetually on the Honor Role and will challenge for the Governor General's award for highest academic standing at Patrick Fogarty.  Along with his athletic and academic excellence, Justin also has a passion for social justice and accompanied the school’s Mission trip to Tanzania last spring.

Congratulations on your accomplishments Justin and best of luck in your Grade 12 year!
